It’s almost shark season, and with the algorithm telling everyone what we already knew, there are a billion shark movies on the horizon.
Not only do we have Renny Harlin’s Deep Water arriving this May, but Alex Aja is teaming with Netflix on the aquatic horror sequel, Under Paris 2.
Netflix is also swimming with sharks in Thrash, a brand new thriller joining the streaming service on April 10.
In Thrash, “When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos…and something far more frightening: hungry sharks.”
If you needed another incentive to watch, here it is: Thrash was directed by none other than Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, responsible for a handful of wonderfully fun films such as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, and Violent Night.
“I became obsessed with sharks after Jaws—and Jaws 2, which is an underrated movie,” said Wirkola. “I spent a lot of my childhood obsessing over sharks and whatever movie was made about that subject. Fast forward to a world going off its rails when it comes to global warming and flash floods happening everywhere, and it dawned on me that this could be a great setting-off point for a movie, combining the idea of a disaster-movie with a shark-thriller.”
It stars Phoebe Dynevor (Inheritance), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II).
Thrash is rated “R” for “Bloody violent content, some grisly images, and language.”
