Series Reboot of ‘RoboCop’ Gets Greenlit by Amazon!

Series Reboot of

Amazon has rebooted RoboCop once again, and this time as a series.

Hiding within an Ankler article, it was reported that Peter Friedlander, Amazon’s new head of global television, has turned the previous regime’s passes into greenlights, including a reboot of MGM’s RoboCop.

It’s unclear which parties are still involved, but nearly two years ago, it was announced that Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) had been tapped as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with horror master James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring) on board to executive produce through his Atomic Monster banner.

If Deadline‘s original information holds true, the series will follow the films’ premise, focusing on a giant tech conglomerate that collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime – a police officer who’s part man, part machine.

The Robocop sci-fi action franchise centers on the dystopian nightmares of Alex Murphy, a Detroit, Michigan, police officer who is fatally wounded in the line of duty and transformed into a powerful cyborg, brand-named RoboCop.

The first film, starring Peter Weller, premiered in 1987. It was followed by two sequels, Robocop 2 in 1990, Robocop 3 in 1993, and 2014’s Robocop, a remake of the 1987 film. There was also a 1994 cyberpunk series that starred Richard Eden as the title character.

The original announcement also included news that Amazon had also given the green light to a Poltergeist series. While there’s no mention of this in the Ankler article, there’s certainly a world in which this was also resurrected under new leadership. Watch this space for news.
