We’re halfway through the first season of Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay, and the breakout horror mystery series has quickly become one of the year’s biggest surprises. In a streaming landscape oversaturated with disposable content and increasingly uneven television, Widow’s Bay feels like a rare exception: a series that’s actually building momentum instead of losing steam. While so many modern shows seem front-loaded before collapsing creatively in later seasons, Widow’s Bay continues to deepen its mythology with each new episode, balancing suspense, dread, and deeply human storytelling in a way that feels heavily inspired by the worlds of Stephen King.
Each installment peels back another layer of the town’s growing mystery while also spotlighting compelling new characters along the way. Episode four, in particular, emerged as an early standout, featuring a powerhouse guest performance from Kate O’Flynn that instantly became one of the season’s defining moments. It’s the kind of episode that works almost like a self-contained nightmare and serves as a perfect entry point for newcomers curious about what all the buzz is about.
Now, Apple TV is preparing to drop two brand new episodes tomorrow, May 27, with Episode 6, “Our History,” followed immediately by Episode 7, “Seasickness.” The official synopsis for “Our History” teases “a beautiful tale of marriage, loyalty, and love that endures beyond lifetimes,” while “Seasickness” sends viewers out to sea alongside Mayor Loftus and beloved local figure Wyck for what promises to be far more than a simple voyage.
We’re highlighting these episodes not just because Widow’s Bay has become one of the best new horror shows on television, but because Episode 6, “Our History,” was directed by none other than Ti West. The filmmaker behind modern genre favorites like X, Pearl, MaXXXine, The House of the Devil, and The Innkeepers feels like a natural fit for the series’ haunting tone and slow-burn storytelling.
West has built his career on atmosphere, patience, and deeply unsettling dread, crafting horror that lingers under your skin long after the credits roll. Films like The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers feel spiritually aligned with Widow’s Bay, sharing the same love for creeping tension, layered mystery, and character-driven horror. If those films are your kind of horror, there’s a very good chance Widow’s Bay is going to completely pull you in.
That’s what makes Episode 6 especially exciting. West’s filmmaking style feels tailor-made for this world, and it’ll be fascinating to see how much of his own visual identity and storytelling voice he was able to inject into the series as the mystery continues to spiral outward.
Apple TV has now provided Dread Central with a first look at the upcoming episodes. Take a look below.
