How the Mortal Kombat Mega Violence Reboot Will Merge With Horror and Why

Call me crazy, but I truly dig it, these news about a reboot James Wan will be bringing to the blood-soaked table. As much as I had some popcorn fun with the first two original adaptations, I'm all for something, well, not campy. I want something super-gritty. Realistic. Deathly. And when you think about it....

Isn't That the Way Action Films Are Going These Days?

We're somehow getting darker and darker, it seems. Everything from news about Sly Stallone fishing for a horror film to even a certain Marvel movie with a doctor getting the terror treatment -- and let's not forget about the Spawn remake! -- it really seems like even Kung Fu's looking like Annabelle or Chucky can toss some ax kicks around like Bruce Lee.

It fits, actually.

Mehcad Brooks Had His Two Cents in on the Gritty Take on the Ultra-Violent Video Game

Who is Mehcad Brooks? He used to play Jimmy Olsen in that also campy Supergirl CW show. But get this: the guy will be playing JAX. That's right: the arm-pulling, ripped, rocking military man at the side of Sonya Blade. And here's what he had to say:
"When I approached Jax, I was like, okay, well, he's an assassin, he's a killer, and he kills monsters, so he has to be a monster. And I was stuck on this Ernest Hemingway quote, and I'm sure I'm gonna f*ck it up, but it goes along the lines of 'Once you've hunted and killed trained men long enough, you have very little taste for anything else in the world,' and that's who Jax is. That's how I found this grounded realism in him. Who was he before he was hunting monsters?"
Good question.

We Know What You're Thinking, Though:

Mortal Kombat's hardly realistic! I mean, a blue-colored ninja dude seems to make it so easy to lift your neck up and pull your spine out like it's a spoon in ice cream. Yeah. Okay. Take note: that's the video game, man!

This will be the film. And that's a totally different beast. Brooks went on about how the film will absolutely have everything the fans love (which coincidentally the original films did not have any of that) -- all the fatalities, the gore, the blood, the martial arts moves. But it also will be grounded in character. And that's what will make it fly high with entrails behind.

I say bring it. We're in an age where what we see has a certain realism to it now. It's not just about fun and popcorn. It's now about what hits us in the face. Hard.

Now all we need to see is a true-to-form adaptation of freakin' DOOM! (Did you check out the newest video game in the franchise coming out?)

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
