Hacker-Themed Metroidvania ‘Recompile’ Announced For PS5, Series X And PC

More choice is best, it seems. Obviously, everyone is looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, but that doesn’t mean other cyberpunk games like get left in the dust. Take Phigames’ Recompile, >which will now launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in addition to being released on PC.

No release date has been announced for the hacker-themed game, which if you’re a sucker for Metroidvanias, this might be right up your alley.

The story for Recompile casts you as a sentient virus trying to escape deletion. At the same time, you must infiltrate the digital, virtual world of The Mainframe in an effort to achieve sapience and bring about the first technological singularity. How you go about achieving your goal is up to you.

The main focus of the game is hacking, where every single environmental feature is able to be cracked by you. Of course, you’ll also be able to fight the half-sentient, half-deterministic subroutines that exist in The Mainframe. You’ll have a wide variety of weapons with which to do so.

For more information on Recompile, you can check out the interview with Phigames cofounder and designer, Phi.
