Scott Derrickson (Dr. Strange, Sinister) is headed back to the horror genre to direct The Black Phone for Blumhouse and Universal, and casting is now underway.
Deadline reports that Jeremy Davies (“Hannibal”) will star.
Derrickson and frequent collaborator Robert Cargill (Bermuda, Doctor Strange, Sinister) adapted the script based on Joe Hill’s short story.
Cargill recently teased the plot, “A kidnapped kid. A creepy, soundproofed basement. An ancient, disconnected phone. Then, when night falls, the phone rings.”
Mason Thames (For All Mankind) and Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4) also star.
Derrickson, Cargill and Jason Blum, for Blumhouse, are producing the film. Universal and Blumhouse will present the Crooked Highway Productions. Joe Hill is an executive producer.
