Blizzard Hints at Possible ‘Diablo II’ Remake Announcement Coming This Year

Hot on the heels of Blizzard’s announcement earlier this week about their merger with Vicarious Visions, Activision Blizzard’s chief financial officer and president of emerging businesses Dennis M. Durkin dropped hints during the company’s fourth quarter calendar 2020 financial results conference call that we might be seeing that Diablo II remake this year.

Along with that, the currently-in-development Diablo IV (to no one’s surprise) will not be launching this year, though we will be seeing the mobile-only Diablo Immortal at some point. “Our outlook does not include Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021,” stated during the conference call. “And while Diablo Immortal is progressing well and we anticipate its launch later this year, we don’t have any material contribution from the title in our outlook presently.”

Meanwhile, the suspected plan behind Vicarious Visions being brought in to help with the Diablo II remake seems to have truth to it, as the call mentioned that Blizzards has “a few other things” up their sleeve in terms of remastered content that they’ll reveal “in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year.”

Details were obviously not made available as to when that would happen, though given the lukewarm response to Diablo Immortal from a few years back at Blizzcon, and last year’s event having been cancelled due to the pandemic, it would be a perfect opportunity this year to make a big splash at this year’s Blizzcon.

Diablo IV is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
