‘Mortal Kombat’: Killer New Shot of Scorpion Begins the Fight Ahead of Today’s Trailer

In the wake of yesterday’s motion posters and before today’s full trailer, Entertainment Weekly has shared a brand new shot of Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi from the James Wan-produced feature film. It’s our coolest look at the movie yet, and you’ll find it below.

The site explains that “the film is, in part, about the birth of Scorpion.”

Entertainment Weekly details, “The opening sequence goes back to feudal Japan where Hanzo is set upon by Bi-Han in what is the latest move between two warring clans. It’s at that moment Hanzo crafts his signature weapon: he takes the kunai blade his wife uses to tend the garden, fashions it to the tip of a whip, and unleashes hell.”

Sanada himself describes the character, specifically his transformation from Hanzo Hasashi to the supernatural fighter Scorpion, as a “family man changed to fighting machine.”

Directed by Simon McQuoid, MK is coming to theaters and HBO Max on April 16.
