Early 2000s Asian horror cinema peaked around the release of Banjong Pisanthanakun‘s Thai horror masterpiece Shutter (2004), which was eventually remade here in the States by 20th Century Fox and the producer behind The Ring and The Grudge.
Pisanthanakun is back with The Medium, a supernatural horror flick that was produced by Korea’s Na Hong-jin, who was behind classics such as The Wailing, Yellow Sea and The Chase, explained THR when news broke.
Now, Variety has the exclusive trailer frop for The Medium, described as a “horrifying story of a shaman’s inheritance in the Isan region of Thailand.
“But the goddess that appears to have taken possession of a family member turns out not be as benevolent as it first appears.”
The Medium opens in Korea this July. Watch for U.S. distribution news as it comes in.
