First Look at ‘Be Right Back’, Set for Slamdance World Premiere

Film festivals are still attempting a comeback and this new variant is complicating things once again. Still, events are moving forward and the Slamdance Film Festival is set to return this coming January with another load of independent films that run parallel to the massive Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah (virtual screenings take place Jan. 20-30).

I’ve identified two films in the Slamdance program that could be of note. The first and most likely to sit within our genre is the German thriller Be Right Back, directed by Frauke Havemann.

In the film, pictured above, “With the appearance of a mysterious stranger, the absurd everyday life of four people living in an abandoned vacation resort in the woods comes apart at the seams.”

The film is said to humorously illuminate the darker side of human nature in the twilight of the forest.

Iris Boss, Inga Dietrich, Effi Rabsilber, Jack Rath, and Poul Storm star.

Another possible genre offering is Clay Tatum‘s indie The Civil Dead, in which
a misanthropic struggling photographer just wants to watch TV and eat candy while his wife is out of town, but when a desperate old pal resurfaces, his plans are thwarted, with spooky consequences.

Tatum stars with Whitmer Thomas, Whitney Weir, Budd Diaz, and Robert Longstreet.
