4 New Horror Movies Released on Friday, July 15th and ‘The Black Phone’ Comes Home!

We did it. We made it to the end of the week, and our reward is waiting for us. What is our reward as we head into the weekend, you ask? How about a bunch of new horror movies?!

For starters, Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone is NOW AVAILABLE AT HOME, less than a month after being released in theaters. Starring Ethan Hawke as a sadistic serial killer, The Black Phone is essentially a “spiritual sequel” to Sinister in many ways, and the film has thus far scared up over $100 million at the box office. Now you can watch it at home from $19.99!

What else is new? Here’s all the fresh horror that arrived today, July 15, 2022!

Black Phone vod and more

After World Premiering at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, South African supernatural horror movie Good Madam (Mlungu Wam) is now streaming on Shudder.

Good Madam actually came to Shudder yesterday, if we’re being technical here.

In Good Madam, “Tsidi, a single mother, is forced to move in with her estranged mother Mavis, a live-in domestic worker caring obsessively for her catatonic white ‘Madam’. As Tsidi tries to heal her family however, a sinister spectre begins to stir.”

“A genre film entrenched in the ordinary everyday horrors in our society, Good Madam explores the generational trauma inherent to South African culture, sprawling from the past to the present day, with chilling delivery and haunting results,” Shudder teases.

Written and directed by Jenna Cato Bass and co-written by Babalwa Baartman, the film stars Chumisa Cosa, Nosipho Mtebe, Kamvalethu Jonas Raziya, Sanda Shandu, Khanyiso Kenqa, Sizwe Ginger Lubengu, Siya Sikawuti, Peggy Tunyiswa and Chris Gxalaba.

Exclusive 'She Will' Clip Questions the Past [Video]

The directorial debut of Charlotte Colbert, IFC Midnight and Shudder’s She Will is being presented by producer Dario Argento, and it’s now playing in select theaters and on Digital.

Meagan Navarro reviewed the film, writing that “She Will casts a beguiling spell of retribution,” further noting, “those that don’t mind a horror adjacent, artful take on witchcraft will find themselves in for a breathtaking visual feast set deep within the Highlands.”

She Will is the directorial debut of Charlotte Colbert and stars Alice Krige, who played the witch in Osgood Perkins’ Gretel & Hansel for Orion Pictures, as “Veronica Ghent, who after a double mastectomy, goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). There she discovers that the process of such surgery opens up questions about her very existence, leading her to start to question and confront past traumas.

“The two develop an unlikely bond as mysterious forces give Veronica the power to exact revenge within her dreams.”

Eberhardt appeared in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and co-stars alongside Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Rupert Everett (Dark City, The Happy Prince), Jon McCrea (Cruella) and Amy Manson (The Nevers).

Black Phone vod and american carnage

Saban Films brings American Carnage to theaters, On Demand, and Digital today, which features a cast led by fan-favorite Scream 2022 and “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega.

You can watch the official trailer for director Diego Hallivis‘s American Carnage below.

The film has been rated “R” for “some disturbing violence and gore,” a bit of which is on display in the trailer. American Carnage looks to be blend “social thriller” aspects with the full-on horror mayhem of something like The Faculty, which should make for a fun blend.

“After a governor issues an executive order to arrest the children of undocumented immigrants, the newly detained youth are offered an opportunity to have their charges dropped by volunteering to provide care to the elderly. Once inside the eldercare facility, the volunteers discover the governor and the facility’s supervisor have cooked up a horrifyingly depraved conspiracy that endangers the young and the old in this twisted thriller-comedy.”

Jorge Lendeborg Jr, Jenna Ortega, Allen Maldonado, Bella Ortiz, Jorge Diaz, Yumarie Morales, and Catherine McCafferty star, with Brett Cullen and Eric Dane also in the cast.

gone in the night winona ryder

Formerly titled The Cow, Vertical Entertainment has released Gone in the Night this weekend in select theaters, a new horror movie starring Winona Ryder (“Stranger Things”).

Gone in the Night will then come to Digital and On Demand on August 2.

John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Dermot Mulroney (The Courier), Owen Teague (It franchise) and Brianne Tju (47 Meters Down: Uncaged) also star in the film.

In the film, “Kath (Ryder) and her boyfriend (Gallagher Jr.) arrive at a remote cabin in the redwoods, only to discover that a mysterious younger couple is already there.

“The rental has apparently been double-booked, and with nowhere else to go, they decide to share the cabin with these strangers. When her boyfriend disappears with the young woman, Kath becomes obsessed with finding an explanation for their sudden breakup—but the truth is far stranger than she could have ever imagined.”

Eli Horowitz (“Homecoming”) directed the film, co-written with Matthew Derby.
