Some Scary Horror Stuff for You!

We’re now more than halfway through October, but have no fear. The new horror releases for the Halloween season definitely aren’t slowing down these final two weeks of the month.

This week brings the Bloody Disgusting-produced found footage franchise V/H/S back with a brand new installment, for starters, along with Jordan Peele’s latest horror project.

Here’s all the new horror arriving October 18 – October 23, 2022!

We kick off the week with Well Go USA Entertainment’s coming-of-age horror-comedy The Loneliest Boy in the World, which was released on VOD platforms beginning today.

Starring Max Harwood (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), The Loneliest Boy in the World is billed as a modern fairytale — except with zombies.

“When the sheltered and unsocialized Oliver (Harwood) is tasked with making new friends after the sudden and devastating death of his mother, he decides that digging a few up (literally) might be his best bet. However, when he awakens the morning after his excavating escapades, he discovers that his newly acquired friends have mysteriously come to life overnight, launching them all into a series of misadventures as they try to keep their secret safe from neighbors, classmates and social workers alike.”

The film from director Martin Owen also stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin (The Woman King), Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes films), Evan Ross (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Tallulah Haddon (The Last Duel), Hammed Animashaun (The Wheel of Time), Jacob Sartorius, Ben Miller (Bridgerton), Alex Murphy (Conversations with Friends), Nicola Roberts and Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars).

“I am beyond excited for audiences to join in the fun of this heartfelt, wacky, zombie-infused 80s fairytale,” Owen said in a statement.

The School for Good and Evil is set to open its doors on Wednesday, October 19, and this latest Netflix Original movie is based on Soman Chainani’s debut novel.

Paul Feig (Ghostbusters, Last Christmas) directed The School for Good and Evil for Netflix, bringing the most iconic fairytales into the real world.

“Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between Good and Evil.”

As if navigating classes with the offspring of the Wicked Witch (Freya Parks), Captain Hook (Earl Cave), and King Arthur (Jamie Flatters) wasn’t hard enough, according to the Schoolmaster (Laurence Fishburne), only true love’s kiss can change the rules and send the girls to their rightful schools and destiny.

“But when a dark and dangerous figure (Kit Young) with mysterious ties to Sophie reemerges and threatens to destroy the school and the world beyond entirely — the only way to a happy ending is to survive their real life fairytale first.”

Charlize Theron will play Lady Lesso and Kerry Washington will play Professor Dovey, with the cast also including Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Anne Caruso.

Shudder is about to hit play on the fifth installment in our V/H/S franchise, with the Bloody Disgusting-produced V/H/S/99 coming exclusively to Shudder on October 20, 2022.

In V/H/S/99, the follow-up to last year’s hugely successful V/H/S/94 – #HailRaatma – a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.

V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium.

For the first time ever there are no familiar faces returning to the franchise…

Bloody Disgusting are collectively huge fans of Johannes Roberts. While he burst onto the scene with Storage 24, he announced himself with the smash summer hit 47 Meters Down before bringing the masked killers back to life in The Strangers: Prey at Night. He most recently directed the feature game adaptation Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. You’ll pledge yourself to Roberts after you see his segment.

Most horror fans don’t know their names yet but they will when Shudder releases their outrageous horror-comedy Deadstream this fall. Vanessa & Joseph Winter come straight from their SXSW hit to the V/H/S family and deliver one of the most insane segments ever recorded.

Maggie Levin is a filmmaker with rock n’ roll roots. We became fans after catching her directorial debut My Valentine for Hulu and Blumhouse’s “Into the Dark” horror anthology series. She also served as second unit director for Scott Derrickson’s smash-hit The Black Phone. Maggie’s segment delivers all the punk rock chaos you’d expect from V/H/S.

Tragedy Girls is a huge fan favorite here on Bloody Disgusting and we’ve been dying to get director Tyler MacIntyre to join the V/H/S family. What he caught on tape will have you questioning the saying, “just let kids be kids.”

Last but not least is musician-turned-director Flying Lotus, who helmed the trippy festival nightmare Kuso and is in prep on the sci-fi horror film Ash. He brings all the weird you wished for in V/H/S/99. Be careful what you wish for.

Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, joins forces with Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope) for the brand new stop motion movie Wendell & Wild.

The spooky Halloween movie first comes to select theaters on October 21, 2022, followed by the Netflix streaming premiere on October 28.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele star in a tale of “the hellishly funny demons of a teen named Kat.” Directed by Henry Selick, the film was co-written by Selick & Peele.

“Wendell & Wild is an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Jordan Peele) – who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot – a tough teen with a load of guilt – to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.”

The classic 1980 slasher movie Terror Train starring Jamie Lee Curtis is getting a remake this Halloween season, with Tubi bringing their own Terror Train to the table this Friday.

Tubi’s first collaboration with Incendo, Terror Train was shot in Montreal and will premiere on October 21 as part of the platform’s successful annual month-long Halloween-inspired genre celebration, “Terror on Tubi.” The new adaptation, produced by Incendo, “is set to thrill horror fans who have been clamoring for a remake of the 1980 cult classic for years.”

In this contemporary reimagining, eerie excitement is in the air as Alana (Robyn Alomar) and a group of college seniors board a party train for a Halloween-themed bash, but their fun spirals into fear as attendees are killed off one by one by an unknown killer. Concealed by costumes and plagued with chaos, everyone is a suspect. As the party train continues full steam ahead, Alana must race against the rails to find the killer before she becomes the next victim.

The new cast is led by Canadian actress Robyn Alomar (“Utopia Falls”), as well as Tim Rozon (“Schitt’s Creek”). The remake is written by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin (“Slasher”), and is directed by long-time Incendo collaborator Philippe Gagnon (“Amber Alert”).

Aliens are headed to the arctic in the upcoming sci-fi invasion film Slash/Back, in limited theaters, Digital HD, and VOD platforms on October 21, 2022 via RLJE Films and Shudder.

In Slash/Back, “Set in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, a sleepy hamlet nestled in the majestic mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, Slash/Back opens as the village wakes up to a typical summer day. No School, no cool boys (well… except one), and 24-hour sunlight. But for Maika and her ragtag friends, the usual summer is suddenly not in the cards when they discover an alien invasion threatening their hometown.

“These teenagers have been underestimated their whole lives but, using makeshift weapons and their horror movie knowledge, they show the aliens you don’t f*** with the girls from Pang.”

Directed by Nyla Innuksuk, Slash/Back stars Tasiana Shirley, Alexis Vincent-Wolfe, Nalajoss Ellsworth and Chelsea Prusky.

Innuksuk’s feature debut premiered at this year’s SXSW, where our own Trace Thurman reviewed the film. Thurman called it “a delightful throwback to ’80s gateway horror.”

Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea, The Mist, The Predator) becomes a badass vampire hunter in the upcoming Slayers, a comedy/action/horror film that The Avenue will be releasing in theaters, on demand and digital this Friday, October 21. K. Asher Levin (Cougars Inc.) directed.

Slayers stars an ensemble cast of Golden Globe® nominee Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Kara Hayward (Moonrise Kingdom), Jack Donnelly (“Atlantis”), Lydia Hearst (Z Nation), Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Academy Award® nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine).

In the film, “Kick-ass vampire slayer, Elliot Jones (Thomas Jane), made it his life’s mission to take revenge on the bloodsuckers who murdered his teenage daughter. After years of tracking them, he has finally reached their secret and hidden base. But to get to them he will need to use a motley crew of social media superstars.

“Enter ‘The Stream Team’: party-girl Jules (Abigail Breslin), gen-z pro-gamer Flynn (Kara Hayward) and their team of trend-makers and breakers! With a hundred million-plus combined followers, they have attracted the attention of reclusive billionaire Beverly Rektor (Malin Akerman), who invites them to party at her multimillion-dollar vacation compound.

“They soon discover these rich people are none other than the ancient vampires that Elliot Jones is chasing. When the team is being held captive in a house of horrors to serve the vampires plan to take over the world, Elliott is their only hope of survival. As he links up with Flynn, a slayer in her own right, will he take down the vampire hoard and save The Stream Team?”

Up next from Hulu is the simmering folk horror movie Matriarch, which comes in the wake of Hulu’s Hellraiser and will begin exclusively streaming on Hulu this Friday, October 21.

In the film…

“After an overdose nearly takes her life, Laura Birch (Jemima Rooper) escapes from the high-stakes pressure of the advertising world to return to her roots. Accepting an invitation home from her estranged mother (Kate Dickie), Laura hopes the time away in the secluded English village will help calm the demons raging inside of her. She soon discovers that the locals of the town are all protecting an unspeakably dark secret—a secret that involves not only her mother but her own terrifying destiny as well.”

Written and directed by Ben Steiner, the film also stars Sarah Paul, Franc Ashman, and Keith David Bartlett.

On Friday, October 21, Dark Sky Films will bring the highly anticipated release of SINPHONY: A Clubhouse Horror Anthology to theaters and digital/VOD platforms.

What makes this particular anthology unique? These nine visions of horror were conceived of and curated entirely on Clubhouse, the audio-based social media platform for casual, drop-in audio chats with friends and new people around the world to tell stories, ask questions, debate, learn, and have impromptu conversations on thousands of different topics.

SINPHONY: A Clubhouse Horror Anthology features a group of international filmmakers each exploring a character dealing with tragedy caused by a supernatural entity.

The directors contributing segments to the film include a new who’s who of horror: Haley Bishop, Jason Ragosta, Sebastien Bazile & Michael Galvan, Mark Pritchard, Kimberley Elizabeth, Jason Wilkinson, Nichole Carlson, Steven Keller and Wes Driver.

SINPHONY’s shocking stories include: an innkeeper’s growing concern about his secretive new guests; a contractor who inhales mold spores that lead to murder; a couple confronting the fact that one of them is a ghost; a witch protecting her child from a killer; a dance craze that has dire consequences, and much more.

Also this week, Bloody Disgusting brings Damien Leone’s hit Terrifier 2 back to theaters for the weekend, and Halloween classic Trick ‘r Treat will be playing in AMC theaters nationwide!

On the small screen, “Unsolved Mysteries” is back with new episodes on Netflix today, “American Horror Story: New York City” premieres on October 19, and “The Simpsons” Halloween special “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Not It” is premiering Sunday, October 23.

In “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Not It,” when a supernatural clown starts slaying the children of Kingfield, young Homer Simpson teams up with other middle school misfits to face their fears and defeat the mysterious monster. But years later, the evil clown returns, and Homer’s friends must confront the tragedy of their adult lives to destroy Krusto once and for all.
