Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick’s ‘Family Movie’ Turns a DIY Horror Shoot Into a Real Nightmare [SXSW]

One of the highlights of this weekend’s SXSW Film Festival is Family Movie, co-directed by Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.

The duo will be starring in this meta horror comedy alongside their real-life children, Sosie Bacon (Smile) and Travis Bacon, and today, EW shares a handful of first-look stills.

“I don’t think that we were necessarily looking for something to do together,” Sedgwick tells the mag. “We pitched it to the kids, thinking that they probably wouldn’t be into it. I was so nervous. And they actually said yes. I was like, ‘Wait, what? You wanna work with your parents?’ It was pretty monumental.”

Here’s the official synopsis:

“A filmmaking family’s low-budget horror movie turns into a real-life slasher when a dead body shows up on set. Chaos ensues as the Smiths fight to keep the production on track. After all — the show must go on!”

Liza Koshy (Boo! A Madea Halloween), John Carroll Lynch (“American Horror Story”), Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010), Andrea Savage (“Tulsa King”), Austin Amelio (” The Walking Dead”), and Scoot McNairy (Monsters) also star.

Dan Beers (Premature) wrote the script.

Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Sosie Bacon, and Travis Bacon produce alongside Vince Jolivette (The Disaster Artist), Casey Durant, Greg Lauritano, and Russell Wayne Groves.

Family Movie will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival.
