Michael Gross Says “The Door is Still Open” for a Potential Eighth ‘Tremors’ Movie

This article contains spoilers for Tremors: Shrieker Island.

The Tremors franchise is back this week with brand new seventh installment Tremors: Shrieker Island, a film that’s more or less more of the same… until the final moments, that is.

Don Michael Paul’s Shrieker Island – now available on Blu-ray, VOD and Netflix – ends with the death of Michael Gross‘s iconic character Burt Gummer, sacrificing himself and being devoured by a massive Graboid. It’s a surprisingly touching note to end the film on, with the end credits sequence of the film playing a series of Gummer highlights from Tremors movies past.

But is Burt *really* dead? We never actually see his body to 100% confirm that he has indeed been killed in the Graboid attack, after all. Gross himself thinks that door is still open.

“There’s a part of me that feels that Universal Home Entertainment might’ve had enough of Tremors. The suggestions that were made in the course of this [movie] made me think maybe they’ve had enough,” Gross explained in a chat with BD’s Boo Crew Podcast. “They came to me and said, ‘What if we ended it at 7?’ and I said, ‘Whatever you choose to do, I’m good with that.”

“That being said,” Gross continued, “The door is still open for an eighth Tremors. It may seem unlikely by what people see on the screen, but it is possible. There could be an eighth. And if there were, and if it were an interesting story, I would be up for it because Burt is always a great deal of fun. It would depend on his physicality. How much they want me to do. If it’s in another two years, I’ll be 75 years old. So I will continue to hope and pray that I stay in shape, to do what is asked of me – if it is asked of me.”

He added, “Another sequel will be driven by the response to this one.”

In other words, if Shrieker Island is a hit on home video, there’s a good chance Universal will bring Gummer back for one more. And it sounds like Gross would very much be up for that.
