Because hey, you knew this was coming.
So, Nintendo has recently released a new retro-inspired Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld. The handheld mimics the original Game & Watch, albeit larger, and comes with Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 2 on it, with Mario The Juggler as the only original Game & Watch title on the system.
Apart from looking and feeling great in the hands, the system’s pretty pithy, game-wise. So naturally, a YouTuber named stacksmashing, together with fellow coder Konrad Beckmann, took it as a challenge to bring id Software’s classic Doom to the handheld.
Apart from stripping the FPS down to its bare necessities (the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. only has 128k of SRAM and 1.3 MB of external RAM, with 1.1 MB of flash memory for storage), Doom does in fact run on the system. Not bad!
In case you missed it, the much more modern DOOM Eternal will now be released digitally for the Nintendo Switch. No timeframe as to when the release date will be, however.
