After announcing PHASE ZERO back in March, SPINA Studio and SUPERHOT PRESENTS have released the anticipated demo for their “modern reimagining of the survival horror golden era classics” to Steam. In addition to the demo, the devs have also released a 10-minute gameplay video with developer commentary, courtesy of IGN.
PHASE ZERO takes place in 1994. You’re in Flint Peak, an isolated harbour town that’s currently plagued by a mysterious illness that is twisting its victims into grotesque nightmares. In the midst of the chaos, two survivors – Mary, a reporter new to the town, and Guy, an injured engineer – must fight to make it through the night.
The story unfolds in a series-like manner, where each chapter stars one of the two protagonists. The demo for PHASE ZERO, which lasts around 30 to 40 minutes, shows how the story begins from the perspective of Guy, who wakes up in a hospital as the chaos of the outbreak sets in.
As for what you’ll be up against, you’ll be faced with body horror delights in “grotesque, cancerous monsters” that roam the streets of Flint Peak. Not only that, a strange tissue-like overgrowth covers the walls of buildings and meat bursts through the pipes. Your weapons are essentially whatever you can scavenge, but that also includes the staples of various firearms.
